The scenario of the transition from peaceful demonstrations to violent actions is unfolding more and more clearly in Serbia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation said in a statement on August 15.

"Certain forces in Serbia, under the guise of slogans about the "search for justice and democracy," do not shy away from open aggression, barbarism and violence. Hooligans are attacking administrative buildings and offices of the ruling party," the agency's website says.

Public order, security, and the lives of citizens are at risk in the country. The demonstrators went so far as to start setting fire to the premises where people are staying.

"The transition from peaceful demonstrations to a violent scenario is unfolding, despite the fact that the country's leadership takes the existing problems seriously and proposes measures to resolve differences in the political, legal, and constitutional fields," the diplomats noted.

Moscow cannot remain indifferent to the events taking place in a friendly country that finds the strength to defend sovereignty in difficult circumstances. The Russian Foreign Ministry expressed its conviction that Belgrade will be able to cope with attempts to undermine the internal unity of the Serbian people and restore peace and stability.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic announced on August 14 that protesters in Serbia had vandalized the office of the Serbian Progressive Party (SPP) during rallies. He also assured that the state would definitely do its job and suppress the protests. Interior Minister Ivica Dacic said on August 15 that at least 42 police officers had been injured as a result of the protests, 26 of them in Belgrade. It is also known about seven injured soldiers, four have serious injuries.

Anti-government protests began after 15 people died in the collapse of the railway station in Novi Sad in November 2024. The protesters blocked bridges and roads.
