As a result of the shooting at a mosque in the Vivalla area of the Swedish city of Örebro, two people were injured, the severity of their injuries is still unknown, the local newspaper Dagens Nyheter reported on August 15.

The police were immediately called to the scene of the Friday prayer. Mosque workers reported hearing gunshots outside the building. A large-scale police operation has now been launched there.

"The most important thing is to prevent people from entering the scene without observing the barriers," police spokesman Gabriel Henning told reporters.

He said that the department had received a call about a violent crime at the mosque. Police have not yet been able to clarify whether the shooting occurred inside or outside the building. A preliminary investigation has been launched into the attempted murder.

Saudi TV channel Al Hadath reported on June 8 that an unidentified man staged an attack on a mosque in the village of Karn al-Asad in Yemen's Al-Bayda province, killing 12 people. The gunman began the attack by shooting at two young men in a nearby grocery store, and then went to the mosque and opened fire on parishioners shortly after the prayer ended. The perpetrator was arrested an hour and a half after the incident.
