- An American political scientist gave a forecast on the outcome of the talks between Putin and Trump
The outcome of the talks between the presidents of the Russian Federation and the United States, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump in Alaska, is unlikely to be a final agreement on the Ukrainian issue, which is likely to require more than one meeting. Amy Lauren Lovecraft, a professor at the Department of Political Science at the University of Alaska at Fairbanks, told Izvestia about this.
"The purpose of this meeting now is not to decide the fate of Ukraine, but rather so that Putin and Trump can better understand each other in person, because personal communication and telephone contact are very different. Of course, both of them will say that the meeting was successful. But will it solve the problem of Ukraine? I'm willing to bet money that it's not," she said.
On August 15, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump will meet in Alaska. Negotiations will begin at 11:30 a.m. local time. After the one-on-one conversation with the participation of interpreters, the delegations will negotiate, they will continue over a working breakfast.
