Szijjarto called for cooperation with Russia for the sake of Europe's security

The secure existence of Europe is impossible without cooperation with Russia. This was announced on August 14 by Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations Peter Szijjarto.

"Partnership with Russia is necessary for the future secure functioning of Europe. <...> Does anyone seriously believe that we can talk about European security in the future, excluding Russia? It's impossible," Szijjarto said on the Harcosok Órája podcast.

According to him, this is necessary not even for political reasons, but for geographical reasons, since Russia is the largest country in the world, as well as a nuclear power. He clarified that those who are unable to take these factors into account pose a real threat to future European security.

Earlier in the day, Szijjarto pointed to Europe's desire to continue the conflict in Ukraine. According to him, this strategy has led to an irreconcilable deterioration of European-Russian relations.

On August 13, Austrian geopolitical analyst Patrick Poppel ruled out the influence of European leaders on the process of peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine, since the issue is ultimately resolved between Russia and the United States. According to him, the current situation forces the leaders of the European Union to unite and try to disrupt the negotiations between the American and Russian leaders Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin.
