The career specialist named the main mistakes of candidates at interviews
The first stages of selection are the filter through which the employer evaluates the candidate, and even a strong specialist can be eliminated due to minor, at first glance, mistakes. Anna Saigina, an expert at the Professions of the Future Center, in an interview with Izvestia on August 15, named six serious mistakes that could destroy the chances of job offers.
"The most common mistake is being late without warning. Punctuality is a basic rule of business communication, so if a delay is unavoidable, it is important to inform about it in advance. Tacit lateness signals disrespect and irresponsibility, which immediately reduces the recruiter's trust," she said.
Ignoring calls and messages is no less annoying for an employer. If a candidate doesn't respond to emails for weeks, skips calls, or disappears after agreeing on an interview, the recruitment specialist naturally has doubts not only about the applicant's interest, but also about the basic communication skills that are important for any position.
In addition, another significant blunder is ignorance of the company and the vacancy. It would be a gross mistake to come to an interview without having studied the employer's field of activity and the requirements for the position.
"When a candidate asks an elementary question, "What do you do?", it shows his lack of preparation and lack of sincere interest in the company. It is usually expected that the applicant has at least familiarized himself with the organization's projects, because this is the minimum level of involvement," the expert said.
Matching a candidate's professional image and digital hygiene are also equally important for a successful interview. Typos in the resume, overly informal photos in social networks, content that does not correspond to a professional image — all this is carefully checked.
According to the expert, informal communication, jargon or familiarity create a negative impression even at the preliminary stages.
"Remember: the interview does not begin when you sit across from an HR specialist, but from the first contact - whether it's a letter, a call, or a messenger message. The first impression is formed quickly, but it is quite difficult to correct it," Saigina summed up.
Oleg Kim, a lawyer for civil and criminal cases at the Moscow Bar Association Grad, told Izvestia on July 21 that in 2025, the indexation of salaries of employees of budgetary professions will amount to 13.2%. He appreciated this prospect and told us who exactly could expect to receive a salary increase.
