- FT learned about Trump's attitude to Zelensky's role in the peaceful settlement in Ukraine
US President Donald Trump presumably still sees Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky as the main problem in resolving the conflict in Ukraine. The Financial Times newspaper writes about this on August 14.
"Perhaps Trump still sees Zelensky as the main problem," says one of the Ukrainian officials.
The publication notes that relations between Trump and Zelensky remain tense after their quarrel in the Oval Office of the White House. At a press conference in Washington, Trump said earlier that he "categorically disagrees" with Zelensky's position on the conflict.
"Ukrainian officials remain deeply concerned that the US president may try to put pressure on Zelensky to agree to a deal he will make with [Russian President Vladimir] Putin in Alaska," the newspaper adds.
On August 12, American Thinker magazine criticized Zelensky for refusing to cede territories before the summit of the heads of Russia and the United States. The article noted that he speaks like a man convinced of his victory, although in fact Kiev is losing. The refusal of the Ukrainian leader to give up territories can only lead to the loss of sovereignty, the publication added.
On August 8, Trump announced a meeting with Putin in Alaska on August 15. The American leader noted that details about the upcoming negotiations will be published later. Russian Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov called the choice of a venue for negotiations logical. He said that the economic interests of the states intersect in the region.
