The court extended the arrest of the ex-mayor of Sochi Kopaigorodsky until September 24.

The Meshchansky District Court of Moscow extended the arrest of former Sochi mayor Alexei Kopaigorodsky until September 24. This was announced on August 13 by a correspondent of Izvestia from the courtroom.

His wife Yanina's arrest was extended until November 12.

In addition to charges of receiving four particularly large bribes and mediation in bribery, as well as embezzlement, Kopaigorodsky is charged with committing three crimes under paragraph "b" of Part 4 of Article 174.1 of the Criminal Code ("Legalization of funds or other property obtained by criminal means"). The amount of funds legalized by the spouses exceeds 104 million rubles.

The former head of Sochi was detained on September 25, 2024 in a special operation area. He was arrested on the same day, and the measure of restraint was repeatedly extended. The wife of the ex-mayor of Sochi was detained in November 2024, placed under house arrest on November 13, and transferred to a pre-trial detention center on March 6, 2025.
