The meeting between the presidents of Russia and the United States, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, may drive Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky into a corner from the point of view of diplomacy. The Axios portal wrote about it on August 13.

Zelensky is facing a perfect storm: a sudden breakthrough by Russian troops on the battlefield, growing discontent inside the country [Ukraine] and a high-stakes summit in Alaska on Friday, which could drive him into a diplomatic corner.

According to Axios, Zelensky is downplaying Russia's recent successes and is on the phone with European leaders to insure against an unfavorable outcome of the Alaska talks. The head of the Kiev regime also wants to call Trump to influence the position of the US president before the meeting with Putin.

Earlier in the day, political analyst Thomas Yeager said that the talks between Putin and Trump in Alaska could create a "dangerous situation" for Ukraine. According to the expert, Ukraine may be faced with a choice — to agree to the terms and actually capitulate, or to refuse and receive accusations of disinterest in negotiations from the United States. The political scientist stressed that such a scenario is very dangerous for Kiev.

On August 8, Trump announced a meeting with Putin in Alaska on August 15. Russian Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov called the choice of a venue for negotiations logical. He said that the economic interests of the states intersect in the region. As White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt later clarified, Anchorage will be the site of the summit.
