On August 13, former head coach of the Canadian national team and a number of National Hockey League (NHL) clubs Gerard Galland became the head of the Chinese hockey club (HC) Shanghai Dragons, playing in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). This was announced on August 13 by the league's press service.

"The head coach of the Dragons will be 61-year—old Canadian specialist Gerard Galland," wrote the KHL Telegram channel.

Gallan's last job was with the New York Rangers in the 2022/23 season. Prior to that, he also coached the Canadian national team, Vegas, Florida and Columbus, adds Sport-Express.

Earlier, on August 7, it became known that HC Kunlun Red Star had changed its name to Shanghai Dragons.

Prior to that, on July 3, the KHL announced that the Chinese club would play its home matches at the SKA Arena in St. Petersburg next season. In the previous season, the club played at the Mytishchi Arena in the Moscow region.
