The wife of former South Korean President Yoon Seok-young, Kim Keon-hee, has been arrested on charges of corruption and interference in the parliamentary and general elections of 2022 and 2024. This was reported by the Yonhap news agency on August 12.

"Former First Lady of [South Korea] Kim Kyong—hee was arrested on charges of participating in a campaign manipulation scheme, election interference and bribery, making her and her husband, former President Yoon Seok-young, the first former presidential couple to be detained simultaneously," the material says.

It is clarified that the arrest warrant was issued by the Seoul Central District Court after the investigation had concerns that Kim would be able to destroy evidence.

According to the lawyers of the former first lady, she is currently cooperating with law enforcement agencies, is "in poor health," and also expresses regret that she "caused people concern." Kim is reportedly charged in accordance with 16 criminal cases.

The wife of the former South Korean leader, as noted in the publication, was directly involved in a scheme of stock price manipulation involving Deutsch Motors, a BMW dealer in South Korea. In addition, between 2009 and 2012, she interfered in the nomination of candidates for the parliamentary by-elections of 2022 and the general elections of 2024. Over the years, Kim has received bribes and "luxury gifts" in exchange for business services.

Yoon Seok-young, who served as president of South Korea, was arrested on January 15 in a corruption case, which was an "unprecedented" case in which investigative authorities detained a person who ruled the state.
