- The central Bank attributed the increase in demand for cash to a reaction to mobile Internet outages.
The increase in demand for cash recorded in June and July was the reaction of businesses and the public to the outage of the mobile Internet in Russia. This is stated in the commentary of the Central Bank of Russia, published on the regulator's website on August 11.
"This demand is slightly higher than in previous years. The deviation may be due, among other things, to the desire of the population and businesses to form a reserve of cash for payments against the background of news about the temporary shutdown of the Internet," the report says.
