Putin told Pashinyan about the meeting with Special Envoy Witkoff
Russian President Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. This was reported on the Kremlin's website on August 11.
It is noted that Putin told Pashinyan about the results of the conversation with US Special Envoy Steven Witkoff and preparations for a meeting with US President Donald Trump in Alaska. The Armenian Prime Minister expressed support for the steps aimed at a peaceful resolution of the Ukrainian crisis.
During the conversation, Pashinyan also informed Putin in detail about the results of his meeting with the American leader and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Washington. Putin stressed the importance of steps aimed at ensuring sustainable peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and reaffirmed Russia's readiness to contribute to the normalization of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations, including unblocking transport communications in the region.
In addition, the conversation touched upon issues of bilateral relations, including the development of trade and investment cooperation and cooperation within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union, the Kremlin's press service said.
Earlier, on August 8, Pashinyan and Aliyev signed a declaration on the peaceful settlement of the conflict. During the meeting in Washington, they agreed to end the confrontation and resume diplomatic relations. Later, the Armenian Prime Minister said that Yerevan and Baku had established peace.
Witkoff arrived in Moscow on the morning of August 6. During the visit, he met with Putin in the Kremlin. Their meeting lasted about three hours. Later, Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said that Witkoff and Putin discussed the conflict in Ukraine and the prospects for possible development of strategic cooperation between Russia and the United States.
