The Russian Foreign Ministry pointed to the impulsiveness of the United States in the field of arms control

Russia will not give in to impulsiveness and play for higher stakes in the field of arms control. This was announced on August 10 by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov.

"The impulsiveness of [the US] making certain decisions, of course, does not help. <...> But there is no impulsiveness on our part. We have consistency, firmness, composure, cold calculation and calculation of options in depth. We will do everything not to play for an artificial increase in the stakes, not to give free rein to feelings in the bad sense of the word," Ryabkov said in an interview with Rossiya 1 TV channel.

He also added that Russia will not put up with blackmail by Western countries. Moscow will respond to such a policy.

"If the price of our response to this policy is an increase in tension, then let it be an "escalation" — call it what you want — but we are not the first to escalate. <...> There are options when it is necessary to play a proactive role, when it is necessary to anticipate some steps that a potential adversary may take."- said the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.

According to Ryabkov, the United States and its allies have accepted Russia's signal to withdraw from the moratorium on the deployment of intermediate-range and shorter-range missiles. He called it a sobering effect.

"Such a rather deaf and inarticulate public reaction of this group to our announcement attracted attention... The logic here is as follows: the Russians have taken an important and meaningful step, let's not add points to them by showing our own emotions and anxiety about this. We can see that too. We have quite reliable sources confirming that the desired result has been achieved, and a sobering effect is taking place," Ryabkov said.

The Deputy Foreign Minister stressed that Russia is communicating its security concerns to the United States.
