The directional beam of the updated laser installation (beamer), created within the framework of the "Staff" project, hit a centimeter sheet of steel in 0.1 seconds, which is 15 times faster than previous tests. This was announced on August 11 by the CEO of the developer company.

"We assembled a new, more powerful installation, using, in particular, a new lens, and tested it in our laboratory. We burned through sheets of steel and various wing samples of foreign drones with a laser beam," he told RIA Novosti.

According to the CEO, as a result, good results were obtained: at a distance of 50 m, the wing of the drone was burned in 0.1 seconds or a steel sheet 10 mm thick, which is 15 times faster than previous tests. The tests, he said, showed that the development of improvements is going in the right direction.

"We successfully conducted bench tests at a distance of 50 m: we increased the power, reduced the size of the burn spot, increased the speed by 15 times, that is, we made the laser beam more concentrated. We understand that we are moving in the right direction, we know what kind of energy we need," said the CEO.

He noted that the next stage of testing the beamer will be working at the landfill for a longer distance.

On August 10, Sergey Urzhumtsev, General Designer of the Kalashnikov concern, announced that the company was considering the development of a promising assault machine gun for a rifle cartridge as one of the areas of work. He clarified that one of the areas of development of a new machine gun of this class may be an assault version of a single machine gun, suitable for use from unstable positions.
