The Kalashnikov concern considers the development of a promising assault machine gun for a rifle cartridge as one of the areas of work. This was announced on August 10 by the general designer of the company Sergey Urzhumtsev.

"Such a task is worth careful consideration of the issue of creating a promising machine gun for a rifle cartridge (single machine gun. — Ed.). We are already taking on this task, among other things," TASS quoted him as saying.

Urzhumtsev clarified that one of the areas of development of a new machine gun of this class may be an assault version of a single machine gun, suitable for use from unstable positions. It is noted that even with this design, the weapon will be demanding on the build and skills of a machine gunner.
