- A relative of the girl who was poisoned by tea in Sochi told the details of the tragedy
Elena, a resident of the Chelyabinsk Region, is among those who died from drinking artisanal alcoholic beverages in Sochi. Her second cousin Lyudmila told Izvestia on August 10 that the deceased woman had small children.
She noted that she learned about the tragedy on Friday, August 8, when her cousin called and informed her about it. Lyudmila stated that she could not immediately believe what she was told.
"I was shocked, but no, how can this be. But they said that Lena had died, that she had become ill. Lena is no more. I didn't understand that such a thing could happen at 37 years old. The girl just came from the south, happy and contented. The children are small [left], well, the shock is complete," the sister said.
On August 7, a court in Sochi detained a 30-year-old woman and her partner who were selling artisanal chacha, which killed at least 10 people. It was clarified that the detainees knew that the alcoholic products sold were artisanal made by unknown persons and did not meet safety requirements. At the same time, lawyer Sean Betrozov told Izvestia that sellers of surrogate alcohol in the Krasnodar Territory could face up to 10 years in prison.
Vsevolod, the son of one of the victims, told Izvestia on August 6 that relatives from the Moscow region had come to Sochi to visit his mother: his mother, brother and his wife. They stopped at a local market in Adler, where they bought chacha. According to him, on Thursday, July 31, they drank it, and the next day they felt sick. The injured were taken to the hospital and almost immediately admitted to the intensive care unit. Within three days, they died one after the other, except for Uncle Vsevolod's wife.
