The Vakhtangov Theater named the cause of death of director Yuri Butusov.
Russian theater director Yuri Butusov drowned while on vacation with his family in Bulgaria. This was announced on August 10 by Kirill Krok, director of the Vakhtangov Theater.
"It is reported that he was vacationing with his family in Bulgaria with his wife and two children and drowned. Such a ridiculous, tragic death," Kroc wrote on his Telegram channel.
He also called Butusov a bright and original man who had his own philosophy.
The death of Yuri Butusov became known earlier that day. The director was 63 years old. Among his famous productions are "The Seagull" (Satyricon Theater), "King Lear" (Vakhtangov Theater), "Uncle Vanya", "Hamlet", "Macbeth. Cinema", "Three Sisters" (Leningrad City Council Theater). He has also worked abroad, directing "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead" in Vilnius (2023) and "Gogol. Portrait" in Riga (2024).
