In the UK, London police detained 466 people at a rally in support of the pro-Palestinian movement Palestine Action, listed as a banned organization in the UK. This was reported on August 9 by Sky News (SN).

"Police made 474 arrests in London after crowds of people demonstrated at the Palestine Action. <...> 466 people were detained under the Terrorism Act for providing support to a banned group. Eight more people were arrested for other offenses," the TV channel said in a statement.

It is noted that this is the largest number of arrests related to a single operation in the last decade.

According to SN, some of the detained protesters were released on receipt of a refusal to participate in such rallies. The rest were taken to prisons across London.

Earlier in the day, it was reported about 365 arrested protesters in London who took part in a rally against military operations in Palestine in Parliament Square. It is noted that earlier the police expressed their intention to arrest "anyone who expresses support for actions in Palestine."

On the same day, Bloomberg, citing a statement from the United Kingdom's Foreign Ministry, reported that the British government had announced additional humanitarian aid for the Gaza Strip amid Israel's plans to expand the offensive. It is noted that the British Foreign Office has allocated an additional £8.5 million ($11.4 million) to the UN fund established to supply food and water to the Palestinians.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced on July 29 that the kingdom would recognize Palestine's statehood in September ahead of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). He stressed that recognition of Palestine will happen if the Israeli government "does not reach a cease-fire" and "does not commit to a long-term peace process."
