Macron stated the need for the EU's active participation in the settlement in Ukraine
European countries are obliged to take an active part in the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict. This was stated on August 9 by French President Emmanuel Macron following a telephone conversation with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.
"The future of Ukraine cannot be decided without Ukrainians themselves. The Europeans will also certainly be part of the solution, since it is about their own security," he wrote on his page on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
The French leader pointed out that Paris, Berlin and London "are determined to continue supporting Ukraine," for which they will rely on the results of the work done within the framework of the so-called coalition of the willing.
On the same day, the leader of the French Patriots party, Florian Philippot, called on official Paris to stop financing Ukraine and supplying weapons. Commenting on the planned summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and American leader Donald Trump in Alaska, he noted that France is obliged to "join this incredible movement for peace."
On August 7, Macron also stated that France supports the ceasefire agreement as a result of the conflict between Ukraine and Russia. The politician noted that he supports the intention to start negotiations that will contribute to the security of Europe and, in particular, Ukraine.
