The ophthalmologist told about the acceptable amount of laser vision correction
A person can have laser vision correction performed twice — directly as the main procedure and, as a rare case, as an additional correction. About this on August 8, "Gazeta.Ru" was told by ophthalmologist, Professor Tatiana Shilova.
"Laser vision correction is a quick, effective way to get rid of optical problems. <...> There are a number of situations where a so—called additional correction is required, that is, an improvement in the optical result after the initial correction. The frequency and need for such additional correction <...> is 1 eye per 2,000 eyes," the ophthalmologist explained.
Shilova added that the correction may be related to the presence of certain eye diseases, such as astigmatism.
At the same time, the doctor noted that each method of eye surgery has its own limitations on post-correction.
"Restrictions can only exist on the thickness of the cornea. If, for example, a person had a high minus and the residual thickness of the cornea is small, then additional correction using laser correction methods will be impossible in this case," the specialist said.
Earlier, on August 7, ophthalmologist Anton Kazantsev said that the main causes of vision loss are related to age and chronic diseases, as well as digitalization. The expert noted that in people over 40 years of age, the main reason for the decrease in visual acuity is age—related hyperopia, or presbyopia. In addition, the cause may be chronic diseases such as diabetes, atherosclerosis, and vascular diseases.
