Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prevost has summoned Israel's ambassador to Brussels, Idit Rosenzweig-Abu, to protest Tel Aviv's plans to expand its operation in the Gaza Strip. This was reported on August 8 by the agency Nieuwsblad.

"We must resolutely advocate the abandonment of these plans, which will definitively jeopardize any prospects for a ceasefire and a peaceful and long—term two-state solution," Prevost said.

According to him, Belgium condemns Israel's decision and, as a result, the ongoing colonization of the Palestinian territories.

"Although the desire to destroy the Hamas terrorist group is legitimate, it cannot be done through disproportionate operations that will further increase the already long list of casualties among the Palestinian civilian population," the Belgian Foreign Minister concluded.

Earlier, on August 4, the Ynet portal reported on Israel's preparation of a plan for the complete occupation of the Gaza Strip. It was clarified that the Israeli leadership intends to switch to active combat operations throughout the enclave. At the same time, the government noted that the army's actions will be conducted even in areas where hostages are being held.

On the same day, it was reported that Hamas was open to negotiations on a comprehensive agreement on Gaza that would resolve the conflict in the Palestinian enclave and release all hostages. At the same time, it was noted that the movement considers the search for a comprehensive agreement to be the key to negotiations on its long-standing demands.
