BAW commented on the price increase for "Chinese" UAZ cars

The BAW company explained the rise in car prices by 500 thousand rubles with certification. This was announced on August 8 by the Autostat agency with reference to the Russian representative office of the brand.

After receiving the OTC, cars will indeed become more expensive, but only if purchased from an authorized dealer in Russia, said Alexander Kovalev, a representative of BAW Russia.

"This is due to the fact that such vehicles will undergo full customs clearance, including a commercial recycling fee. This format is convenient for those who do not want to wait for delivery or buy from a legal entity. If you are ready to order a car directly — from a warehouse in Manchuria (China) or from a factory, to register it for individuals through alternative imports, the price will not change," he said.

Kovalev clarified that regardless of the chosen purchase method, the warranty for the BAW car will be the same — 5 years or 150 thousand km.

Currently, the BAW 212 frame SUV and the BAW MPV minivan are undergoing the final stages of certification in our country, with sales scheduled to start in the third quarter of 2025.

The BAW 212 is the successor to the national military all-terrain vehicle BAW BJ212, an analog of the UAZ. Soviet designers had a hand in its creation in the middle of the last century. The length of the modern model is 4705 mm with a wheelbase of 2860 mm, ground clearance is 235 mm. The cars are equipped with two-liter gasoline turbo engines with a capacity of 238 hp (410 Nm) in conjunction with an eight-speed automatic transmission, the all-wheel drive system operates according to the Part Time scheme.

On August 6, the UAZ press service announced that Hunter SUVs would continue to be produced only at the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant. The Vehicle Type Approval (OTT) issued to the Avtodom partner company applies only to special versions of the vehicle. We are talking about snowmobiles, service vehicles for maintenance of communications in remote areas, as well as small series equipped according to individual customer requirements," the company said.

They clarified that the SUVs, which will later be converted into special versions, as before, will be produced directly at UAZ itself and transferred to Avtodom's partner company, which, after appropriate refinement of these vehicles, will put its own VIN number on them.
