From September 25 to 28, St. Petersburg will become the epicenter of digital creativity — the new Digital Rain international Media Art Festival will be held here.

The Digital Rain International Media Art Festival will be held for the first time from September 25 to 28 in St. Petersburg. The festival will combine artistic works in the field of media art and new media technologies from Russian and foreign authors and will focus on the topic of "Flows" as a metaphor for digital exchange and research on the dynamics of the modern world. Digital Rain will become a large-scale urban event and create a space for a dialogue between art and technology.

About 20 audiovisual installations, a video art program, digital performances, sound works, augmented reality projects, educational and musical programs will be presented in the urban environment and at leading venues in the center of St. Petersburg. The new stage of the Alexandrinsky Theater, the Sevkabel Port, the V. V. Mayakovsky library in the building of the former Dutch Reformed Church, the SENO and PBX public spaces on Nekrasova Street and other iconic venues of the city will become points of attraction for residents and visitors of the city.

The main program of the festival features works by Russian and foreign authors: LYM ART Zakharova x Masaidov, Anastasia Alyokhina, SPLACES.STUDIO, Talking Birds & Flying Fish, Playmodes, SHUM, and a number of participants in the main program will be selected through an open competition for which more than 200 applications have been received. The performance program will be presented on the New Stage of the Alexandrinsky Theater, and there will also be an educational program for professionals and fans of media art. The music program was prepared in collaboration with the m_division team, the creators of the GAMMA festival.

A large-scale closing ceremony of the festival will be mapping on the facade of the historic Alexandrinsky Theater building on the evening of September 28. All festival venues will be included in the urban art route "Media Art of St. Petersburg", created specifically for the Digital Rain Festival in the Newstage XR application from the New Media Laboratory.

"The name of our Digital Rain festival is a synthesis of two symbols: the digital code and the St. Petersburg rain, creating a unique festival atmosphere. We chose "Streams" as this year's theme — both informational and digital, as well as streams of water and rain," said Selena Volkonskaya, curator and founder of the Digital Rain Festival.
