The US Department of Defense is developing a new scheme for the sale of weapons to European countries, which will be provided to Ukraine in the future. This was reported on August 8 by CNN, citing sources.

"The Ministry of Defense is also working with NATO to develop a new system for selling weapons to European allies, which can then be provided to Ukraine," the material says.

It is specified that the system implies the creation of a NATO bank account, to which the allies will be able to transfer funds for the purchase of weapons in the United States. Ukraine will also now send a wish list for weapons and equipment to NATO, and the commander-in-chief of NATO forces in Europe, Alexus Grinkevich, will determine whether the United States has enough stocks to sell.

The TV channel notes that last month, US President Donald Trump hinted at the creation of a new mechanism. According to him, the United States has concluded a deal through which they will be able to produce and ship weapons, and other states will pay for them.

Not all US allies agree to buy weapons from Washington

Earlier, on August 4, the United States Permanent Representative to the NATO bloc, Matthew Whitaker, said that the United States had set a certain limit on weapons that could be supplied to Ukraine through a procurement scheme by European countries. He noted that this decision was made in connection with the desire of the United States to protect itself from the disadvantage associated with stocks of its own weapons.

On August 1, it was reported that the United States and NATO were working together on an arms supply scheme for Ukraine. It is noted that the supplies will be fully paid for by NATO. The issue of which of the member countries of the alliance will "donate" their finances will be discussed during the negotiations coordinated by NATO Chief Secretary Mark Rutte.
