Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree on reducing greenhouse gas emissions. According to the document, by 2035, it is necessary to ensure a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions to 65-67% relative to 1990 levels, taking into account the maximum possible absorption capacity of forests and other natural ecological systems, and subject to sustainable and balanced socio-economic development of the country. Environmental and climate conservation issues have traditionally been the focus of the Roscongress Foundation.

"Russia consistently implements a low-carbon development strategy, combining environmental responsibility with the priorities of industrial and economic growth. An important step in the development of this policy was the published presidential decree. The Roscongress Foundation integrates the development of green technologies, emissions reduction through innovative approaches, and investments in low-carbon initiatives into the agenda of major business events. The active involvement of business and the scientific community in the implementation of these tasks will continue. A responsible approach to industrial development, taking into account environmental priorities, will strengthen Russia's place in the global economy of the future," said Anton Kobyakov, Executive Secretary of the WEF Organizing Committee and Adviser to the President of Russia.

On August 1-2, the Sakhalin Region hosted the International Forum "Islands of Sustainable Development: the Climate Aspect", which announced that the region had achieved carbon neutrality ahead of schedule. The results of the Sakhalin climate experiment are planned to be presented at the UN Global Summit on Combating Climate Change in September 2025 in New York.

It is also expected that events dedicated to ecology and climate issues will be included in the program of the tenth anniversary Eastern Economic Forum. In 2023, the WEF achieved carbon neutrality. The carbon footprint is offset at all major Roscongress Foundation events.

The tenth anniversary Eastern Economic Forum will be held on September 3-6 in Vladivostok. The main theme of this year's WEF is "The Far East – Cooperation for Peace and Prosperity." The WEF is organized by the Roscongress Foundation.
