- Scammers call Russians from the delivery service, and then allegedly from Roskomnadzor
Fraudsters began to use a new two-stage scheme to deceive Russians, based on a call from an alleged employee of Roskomnadzor. This became known on August 8.
According to the RIA Novosti news agency, the scammers began calling Russians, posing as employees of the flower delivery service and demanding an SMS code to confirm the order. However, after that, the call is interrupted, and an imaginary Roskomnadzor employee appears on the line.
He claims that he can help regain access to the Gosuslugi portal and withdraw the application for a microloan. During the dialogue with the fraudster, the Russian receives a code that subsequently allows the attackers to gain access to personal data.
On August 6, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation warned about the theft of personal data by fraudsters using phishing resources created on the Internet that mimic the websites of city morgues. The agency added that scammers can create such resources repeatedly, so it is better not to respond to "urgent requests" for personal data — phishing sites deliberately create a false sense of the need for urgent application processing.
