Russians have been warned about a powerful magnetic storm impending on Earth
In the next 24 hours, the Earth will be covered by the strongest magnetic storm in the last two months. The first disturbances will begin tonight, and the peak of activity will be on the morning of August 8. On August 7, the head of the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy at the Institute of Space Research (IKI) told Izvestia about this RAN Sergey Bogachev.
According to him, there has been noticeable activity in the Sun over the past few days. The probability of a second-level storm is about 80%.
"This is really the strongest event in two months. Even if the main outburst passes by, we still expect a five- to six—day period of geomagnetic disturbances," the expert warned.
Doctors warn that such geomagnetic fluctuations can seriously affect people's well-being. Therapist, Doctor of Medical Sciences Oksana Pivovarova explained that a magnetic storm causes inconvenience if at least one of the body's systems does not work well enough, for example, a person has chronic diseases. According to her, during a magnetic storm, blood viscosity increases, which leads to a number of negative consequences.
"People with heart disease, hypertension and hypotension react most strongly to a magnetic storm. It is no coincidence that the number of strokes, heart attacks, and hypertensive crises is seriously increasing at this time," Pivovarova noted.
To get through this period easier, the specialist recommended temporarily reducing the load on the body.
"Increase your sleep time — it's optimal to sleep at least seven hours. Reduce the rhythm of life. Allow yourself a little rest during the day — at least for a few minutes. If possible, take a short walk, but not in the scorching sun," she pointed out.
Pivovarova also advised to avoid stress, drink more water, limit the consumption of coffee, alcohol and heavy food. The doctor recommended paying special attention to blood pressure control and taking prescribed medications for people with chronic diseases.
The Laboratory of Solar Astronomy also warned on August 6 that geomagnetic disturbances, the source of which will be a coronal hole, may begin on Earth on August 8. In addition, the speed of the solar wind near the Earth's orbit will reach about 600-700 km/s on Friday and Saturday.
