Russia and China may discuss Security Council reform at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in September, the State Duma told Izvestia.

"The 80th anniversary is a big event, but rather it is an occasion. If there are any conversations during this meeting, they will certainly be devoted to a wider range of issues, including the international situation and those topics whose resolution depends on the opinions of Russia and China," Alexander Babakov, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma, told Izvestia.

Both Russia and China are permanent members of the UN Security Council.

"In the context of the anniversary session, it is possible to form a joint statement in which Russia and China will emphasize the importance of returning to universalism in international affairs and respect for the cultural and political diversity of the world. This position resonates with China's initiatives in the field of civilizational dialogue, and Russia can co—author such formulations," said Sergei Gavrilov, head of the State Duma Committee on Property, Land and Property Relations and coordinator of the parliamentary group for relations with the Chinese Parliament.

The 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly will open on September 9, and the general debate will begin on the 23rd.
