By the middle of the century, the climate in Moscow will resemble the Black Sea
By the middle of the 21st century, the climate in Moscow may become similar to the Black Sea. This was announced on Wednesday, August 6, by Candidate of Agricultural Sciences Mikhail Yashin.
According to him, in an interview with the Moscow city news agency, the capital is already facing signs of a new climate regime — a sharp change in seasons, heat above +30 degrees, heavy rains and weather changes.
Yashin noted that forecasts point not only to hot summers, but also to more unstable winters: with frequent snowfalls, freezing rains and ice. He stressed the need to adapt urban infrastructure — from housing and communal services to transport and medicine — to changing conditions, writes Moscow 24.
Due to the increase in summer temperatures, the frequency of thunderstorms, squalls and heavy precipitation is increasing, which the old storm sewer system cannot cope with. It is especially difficult in areas with dense buildings and asphalt pavement, the website clarifies. kp.ru . The expert suggested adopting the experience of cities in the subtropics — using drainage systems, drainage tanks and green areas.
He also added that the heat increases ground-level ozone and reduces air quality. Atmospheric pollution can increase thunderstorms, and climate change affects the health of citizens and the functioning of urban infrastructure.
Also on August 6, the Ministry of Emergency Situations urged residents of the Moscow region not to leave their homes on Thursday, August 7, due to heavy rains and thunderstorms. The ministry noted that motorists were urged not to leave cars under trees and billboards — in case of strong winds or thunderstorms, they may be knocked down, and there is also a risk of lightning strikes. Pedestrians are advised not to hide under trees, power lines and metal structures, notes 360.ru .
On August 5, it was reported that 130% of the monthly precipitation fell in the capital during the day. The heaviest rains were recorded in Naro-Fominsk, where 84 mm fell, and this is 130% of the total precipitation for August, the forecaster emphasized.
