In 2025, school uniforms in Russia will meet the new quality and safety standards set by GOST. What has changed in the design requirements, how to choose the right shape, and what does the law say? All the key aspects are in the Izvestia material.

What is required by GOST for school uniforms?

On July 1, 2025, the new GOST R 71582-2024, which regulates school uniforms, came into force in Russia. This standard does not specify a specific design, but sets out the characteristics that student clothing should meet: business style, rigor, convenience, and safety.

The uniform should be comfortable for sitting and movement, made of hypoallergenic, mostly natural fabrics, without sharp and traumatic elements. The color scheme is traditionally restrained — dark blue, gray, burgundy or black, with a classic combination of light top and dark bottom.

GOST regulates the technical parameters of fabrics (hygroscopicity, wear resistance, breathability), the safety of fittings (absence of sharp edges and metal parts capable of causing injury), as well as a comfortable fit of products and a conservative appearance. It is important that the standard prohibits the use of symbols of antisocial youth associations and propaganda of illegal behavior, but recommends the placement of state and patriotic symbols.

Although the new standard is purely advisory in nature, manufacturers of school uniforms that confirm compliance with GOST can mark clothes with a special mark that is checked through the Honest Sign system.

At the same time, the legislation prohibits officials from specifying specific suppliers of uniforms in order to avoid corruption risks — it is better to choose uniforms from trusted domestic manufacturers accredited according to GOST.

Is school uniform mandatory in Russia

The Federal Law "On Education in the Russian Federation" (Article 38) does not oblige schools to introduce compulsory uniform school uniforms, but grants educational organizations the right to make such decisions independently. Schools have the right to introduce their own local uniform requirements, for example, to specify the mandatory elements of the kit, the color scheme, accessories or requirements for sports uniforms. Parents are required to follow the established rules, but have the right to choose the style, manufacturer and fabric within the approved requirements.

In addition, the new GOST is designed not only to ensure uniform quality and safety standards, but also to protect parents from unnecessary costs and the purchase of low-quality clothing. The document does not apply to sports uniforms and shoes, focusing specifically on casual and formal school clothes.

Thus, in 2025, school uniforms in Russia should preserve the classic business style, be based on modern standards of quality and safety, and its implementation and specific rules are determined by schools in accordance with state recommendations and legislation. This approach helps to preserve the traditions of discipline and equality among schoolchildren, while ensuring the comfort and protection of the interests of parents.

How to choose a uniform for a boy in 2025

For boys, the basic set of school uniforms includes a shirt, jacket or blazer, trousers and a vest or cardigan. The average cost of a basic kit for a boy is from 4 thousand to 6 thousand rubles. It is recommended to buy clothes in summer or late spring to choose the right size and exchange if necessary.

How to choose a uniform for a girl in 2025

For girls, the range is wider and may include blouses, jackets, skirts, dresses, sundresses, trousers, as well as cardigans or turtlenecks. The main style is businesslike, restrained and conservative, without bright colors and excessive decor. The cost of a kit for a girl is usually higher — from 4.5 thousand to 7 thousand rubles, depending on the brand and the selected elements of the kit. It is optimal to purchase a uniform in advance before the start of the school year, using the opportunity for exchange and sales.

Basic recommendations for choosing school clothes for boys and girls

— Be sure to check for the marking of compliance with GOST R 71582-2024. This ensures that the mold has passed quality control according to hygienic, physico-mechanical and safe parameters.

— Give preference to fabrics with natural fibers or with a high content of them — they are hypoallergenic, breathable and wear-resistant.

— The shape should fit comfortably on the figure, should not be tight or too loose, providing freedom of movement and comfort in a sitting position.

Remember that sports uniforms and shoes are not covered by this GOST and are purchased separately in accordance with the requirements of the school.

How not to make a mistake with the choice of school clothes

Specify the requirements of a particular school. First of all, check the school's charter or the principal's order. It usually specifies acceptable colors, skirt lengths, pants shapes, and even seasonal features (such as winter vests).

Fitting is required even for online purchases. The size grid of manufacturers may vary. Always check the possibility of a refund and try on the form before purchase, especially if you choose a product "for growth".

Convenience is no less important than conformity. The form should not restrict movement. Pay attention to the freedom in the shoulders, the elasticity of the waistband and the softness of the collar — especially for younger students.

Shoes are not only a part of the image, but also a guarantee of health. Classic replacement shoes should be lightweight, with orthopedic soles and made of natural materials. Unsuitable shoes lead to impaired posture and fatigue.

— Don't skimp on fabric. Cheap materials quickly lose their appearance, crumple, and electrify. It is better to pay a little more for a uniform that will last the entire school year without loss.

Choose neutral colors. Gray, blue, burgundy, and dark green are versatile and often fit into school requirements. Bright shades or non-standard prints may not pass the test on the ruler.

— The form should "grow" with the child. Look for models with adjustable belts, hemlines, or sleeve lengths. This is especially important when buying a uniform for future use.

— Taking care of clothes — saving time and money. Specify the possibility of machine washing, no need for ironing, and resistance to fading. Convenience in everyday life is an important factor when choosing a uniform.

Consider the child's opinion. If he doesn't like the shape or is uncomfortable, it will cause stress and rejection. Allow the child to choose a style from the acceptable options — this will increase his motivation.

Look at the packaging and labeling. Look for the EAC compliance mark, information about the manufacturer, the composition of the fabric, and the rules of care. The lack of this data is a reason to cancel the purchase.
