The personal contact between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu testifies to the strength of Russian-Israeli relations. This was announced by the Israeli Ambassador to Russia, Simona Halperin, in an interview with Izvestia on August 5.

On the eve of August 4, Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the Russian leader, announced a telephone conversation between Putin and the Israeli prime minister. The previous conversation between the leaders took place on July 28.

"I think it's very important that leaders can speak directly when there are important points that only they can discuss. This shows that any party can take the initiative, and this initiative is accepted by the other party. This is an important indicator of how strong the relationship is," the diplomat stressed.

According to Simona Halperin, Israel and Russia are also discussing issues related to the Iranian nuclear issue.

"The countries are in contact. I have been very seriously dealing with issues related to the situation in the Middle East for a year and a half, and, of course, the Iranian dossier is one of the main and important issues that we have on the table," the ambassador said.

During the previous talks on July 28, Putin and Netanyahu discussed the situation in the Middle East.
