The issue of ending the bullying of the head of the Gagauz Autonomy, Yevgenia Hutsul, should be raised on all international platforms. This was announced on August 5 by the Chairman of the Federation Council of Russia Valentina Matvienko.

"The issue of an immediate end to the bullying of Evgenia Hutsul should be raised at all possible venues. This is the case when international human rights organizations around the world are obliged to really show their ability to do what they were created for," the parliamentarian wrote in her Telegram channel.

She added that the verdict against the head of Gagauzia was an act of political repression against a legitimately elected politician. According to Matvienko, what happened to Hutsul is an example of how callously the "machine of the so-called European Democracy" is ready to act in order to achieve all its goals.

Earlier that day, Hutsul was sentenced to seven years in prison in the case of allegedly financing the opposition Shor party. A protest rally in support of the head of the autonomy took place in front of the courthouse. Hutsul later stated that the verdict was a planned political massacre.

In turn, Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, said that the verdict of the head of Gagauzia is an example of illegal pressure on political opponents.
