After a powerful earthquake, the southern part of the Kamchatka Peninsula shifted by almost two meters. This was announced on August 5 at the Kamchatka branch of the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS).

"The maximum coseismic displacements after the earthquake on July 30 were observed in the southern part of the peninsula. There they amounted to almost two meters," the Telegram channel says.

According to the service, this displacement is comparable to the horizontal displacement after the earthquake in Tohoku, Japan, in 2011.

The earthquake in Kamchatka occurred on July 30. A tsunami threat has been declared on the coast of the Avacha Bay due to a strong earthquake. As a result of a seismic event in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, the wall of one of the kindergartens collapsed.

This was followed by a series of aftershocks. On August 4, RAS specialists reported that seven significant earthquakes were recorded in Kamchatka during the day. It was clarified that more than 85 seismic events were registered in Kamchatka in just one day.
