Ynet reported on Israel's plans for the complete occupation of the Gaza Strip
The Israeli government, led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, is preparing to approve a plan for the complete occupation of the Gaza Strip. This was reported on August 4 by the Ynet portal, citing sources among high-ranking officials.
According to the interlocutors of the publication, the decision has already been made: the Israeli leadership intends to switch to active combat operations throughout the enclave. At the same time, the government stressed that the army's actions will be carried out even in areas where hostages are being held.
According to the portal, the army command, including the chief of the General Staff of the Israel Defense Forces Eyal Zamir, opposes such plans. However, the position of the military leadership did not influence the political decision. Ynet sources noted that if Zamir does not agree with the cabinet's position, he may resign.
"It is expected that the Prime Minister will put forward a proposal to the Cabinet of Ministers to order the IDF to occupy the Gaza Strip, defeat Hamas and return the hostages. Israel understands that it is impossible to return the hostages under the deal, either partially or completely," the article said.
On the same day, it was reported that the Palestinian Hamas movement was open to negotiations on a comprehensive agreement on Gaza that would end the conflict in the Palestinian enclave and free all hostages. It was clarified that Hamas considers the search for a comprehensive agreement to be the key to negotiations on its long-standing demands for the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza and a long-term end to the war.
