Russian President Vladimir Putin regularly visits Valaam Island, where the Smolensky Skete and the Spaso-Preobrazhensky Valaam Stavropol Monastery are located, as this is an important place for Russian culture. This was announced on August 4 by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

"You know that the president often visits Valaam. This is a very important place for our culture, for our past and for our history," Peskov said at a briefing.
