Chisinau court denies last word to opposition MP Tauber

In Chisinau, the court denied the last word to Marina Tauber, an opposition member of the Moldovan parliament, before passing a verdict. This was announced on August 4 by her lawyer Sergey Moraru.

"There were lines today, and in theory, it should have been the last word. Ms. Tauber wanted to say the last word to express her position on the charges, to prove her innocence. But this did not happen," Moraru said, quoted by the Telegram channel "First in Moldova".

According to the lawyer, the court unreasonably denied the deputy the right to have the last word. He added that the court will announce the verdict in the Tauber case on September 30.

On July 11, prosecutors requested 13 years in prison for Tauber in the party financing case. The prosecution also demanded that the Moldovan opposition MP be put on the wanted list, stripped of her rights to hold public office for a period of five years and 206 million lei ($12 million) confiscated.

Later, a member of the Moldovan parliament, Vasily Bolya, said that the case against Tauber was a political reprisal against the entire opposition.
