Switzerland has begun searching for those responsible for the failure of trade negotiations with the United States, as a result of which duties of 39% were imposed on the country. This was reported on August 3 by the Financial Times (FT) newspaper.

"Swiss President Karin Maria Keller-Zutter is accused of a gross miscalculation of a trade deal that she hoped she would be able to conclude with the administration of [US President Donald] Trump. Trump," the publication says.

According to the newspaper, a number of critics also blame pharmaceutical companies from Switzerland, which displeased Trump. According to one of the FT's interlocutors, during negotiations with the Swiss president, the American leader stated that Bern was stealing money from Washington.

On July 31, Keller-Zutter reported that Switzerland had failed to reach an agreement with the United States on duties. She stressed that the trade deficit remains the main problem for the United States.

The United States and the European Union agreed on a trade deal on July 27. The agreement will allow the EU to avoid 30% duties that could be imposed by Washington. As a result of the deal, the European Union remains with 15% tariffs on most of its exports, including cars.
