A resident of Yoshkar-Ola was killed when a branch of an old sycamore tree fell on the territory of the Juma Mosque in Derbent. This was announced on August 3 by the head of the city, Khanlar Pashabekov, in his Telegram channel.

"On behalf of the city administration, I express my deep condolences to the family and friends of [deceased] Elena Krasnova, a resident of Yoshkar-Ola. We have already contacted her husband, who will arrive in Derbent in the near future. We are ready to provide all possible assistance. This is a difficult and sad event for all of us," Pashabekov wrote.

Two other women, residents of Moscow, were injured and taken to the Derbent city hospital. According to the mayor, their lives are not in danger. Medical care is provided in full. On his instructions, the deputy mayor visited the victims at the medical facility and conveyed words of support on behalf of the administration.

According to Pashabekov, the maintenance of trees on the territory of the Juma Mosque is carried out by the Makhachkala forestry Department. The last sanitary pruning of green spaces was carried out in 2023. In connection with the incident, an unscheduled inspection of the condition of trees at all public facilities in the city will be carried out to prevent the recurrence of such situations.

Earlier that day, the investigative department of the Investigative Committee of Russia reported that a tree fell on three women on the territory of the Juma Mosque in Derbent, one of them died. The Derbent interdistrict investigative Department of the SU IC of Russia organized an inspection.
