In Japan, four workers died while inspecting a manhole
In Saitama Prefecture, north of Tokyo, four workers died while inspecting a manhole. This was reported on August 3 by the Kyodo news agency.
"Four workers died after falling into a manhole on Saturday while checking a sewer pipe in Saitama Prefecture, north of Tokyo," the material says.
It is noted that the level of hydrogen sulfide at the accident site exceeded the norm by more than 15 times, and the workers did not have personal protective equipment.
According to police, one man apparently lost consciousness while descending a ladder into a manhole and fell, followed by the other three as they tried to rescue him.
Earlier, on June 2, nine people were poisoned by carbon monoxide and hydrogen sulfide while working at the OMV Petrom oil refinery in Romania. It is specified that the victims were poisoned by gas, which was released by their equipment, and not by installations inside the plant.
