The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia named the messengers most popular among scammers

Most of the crimes using messengers are committed in Telegram and WhatsApp (part of Meta, the organization is recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation). This was announced on August 3 by the Department for the Organization of the fight against the illegal use of information and communication technologies (UBK) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.

"Over the past week, 414 crimes have been committed using Telegram, and 313 crimes have been committed using WhatsApp," the department's Telegram channel noted.

It is specified that 19 crimes were committed on the VKontakte social network, and one on Odnoklassniki. According to the Interior Ministry, no crimes involving the MAX messenger were recorded during the specified period.

The provision of such services is subject to criminal liability.

On July 21, Telegram founder Pavel Durov warned users about scammers extorting paid gifts, names and money in the messenger under threat of revealing personal data. According to him, gifts and user names once cost several dollars, but now they can be sold for more than $ 100 thousand.
