An aftershock of magnitude 6.8 was recorded off the coast of Kamchatka. This was announced on August 3 by the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia in the Kamchatka Territory.
"Another noticeable aftershock occurred in the Pacific Ocean. Residents of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and Vilyuchinsk felt it with a force of up to 4-5 points. <...> Its magnitude is 6.8," the department's Telegram channel says.
It is noted that the seismic event occurred 277 km from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky at a depth of 26 km. It is specified that as a result of the aftershock, according to calculations by the Kamchatka Tsunami Monitoring and Warning Center, a tsunami wave with a height of no more than 19 cm is possible to reach the Aleutian Municipal District, no more than 15 cm to the Ust-Kamchatsky municipal district and no more than 3 cm to the Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky urban district.
Earlier in the day, it was reported that 10 significant earthquakes were recorded in Kamchatka during the day. It is specified that in just one day more than 65 seismic events were registered in Kamchatka.
On August 2, the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation for the Kamchatka Territory reported that 150 aftershocks were recorded in the region. Their magnitude ranged from 3.2 to 6.2.
