The Mayor of Moscow spoke about the program of events for the Day of Physical Education

Moscow On August 9 and 10, the city will celebrate the Day of the Physical education student. According to the mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin, these days the city center "will turn into a large sports ground where you can try yourself in various sports, participate in amateur tournaments and cheer at competitions for professionals."

Over 20 sports will be represented in 14 locations in Moscow, the mayor wrote in his Telegram channel. In particular, cycling classes will be held on Pushkin Square, and mass street basketball tournaments will be held on Izvestia Square. Chess tournaments will be held on Theater Square, and workout, parkour, and ring areas will be added to Kamergersky Lane.

A festive program will be held at the Moskvich Stadium on August 9. In particular, it includes sports tournaments and events with football players of the Media League. They will also host the largest fitness training session from the My Sports District project.

Sports are gaining popularity among residents of the capital: if in 2010 about 2 million Muscovites were constantly engaged in them, now about 6 million people, or every second resident of the metropolis, lead a sporty lifestyle, Sobyanin said last October. According to him, this dynamic was the result of the consistent development of the city's sports infrastructure.

"Moscow is the most active metropolis, where physical education is a way of life for millions of people. This is our vision of a strategy for the development of physical culture and sports," the mayor emphasized. He noted that in recent years, more than 10,000 flat sports facilities have been built in the city, including soccer fields, gyms, tennis courts and outdoor pools, running and cycling tracks, ski trails and ice rinks. More than 200 large sports facilities have also been built in Moscow and dozens of iconic sports facilities have been reconstructed, including the ski slope on Vorobyovy Gory.
