The FBI edited documents on the case of financier Jeffrey Epstein before they were made public, hiding the name of US President Donald Trump and a number of other American officials from the papers. This was reported on August 1 by Bloomberg, citing sources.

"The editing was done by a team of FBI staff. <...> The names were withheld <...> because these people, including Trump, were private individuals when the federal investigation into Epstein began in 2006," the sources are quoted as saying in the publication.

The agency's interlocutors stressed that if the name of a person appeared in the investigation documents, this does not mean at all that he was involved in the crime.

It is noted that because of one of Trump's campaign promises to declassify documents on the Epstein case, the FBI had to analyze a "mountain of materials" in order not to make too much public.

"It was a herculean task, involving up to 1,000 FBI agents and other staff who worked all night studying more than 100,000 documents," Senator Dick Durbin said in a published letter to U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi.

The Politico newspaper on July 23 reported on Trump's "rage" that he is experiencing due to excessive attention to the materials on the Epstein case. Later, on July 28, the Reuters news agency pointed to a possible undermining of the nation's trust in Trump due to the scandal over the Epstein case. On the same day, the American president expressed dissatisfaction with the gaffes his administration was making in this matter.
