- Shor accused the Moldovan authorities of transferring the energy sector under the control of the West
The Moldovan authorities have transferred the republic's energy sector under the control of Western states. This was announced on August 1 by the leader of the Moldovan opposition bloc "Victory" Ilan Shor.
"If Moldovagaz is still managed by Moldova, then Energocom is run by Western owners, from whom all gas and electricity are purchased. <...> There is no independence for a country whose strategic infrastructure would be managed by foreigners. This is not independence, but slavery," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
According to him, energy projects are financed from the state budget through loans from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. He clarified that the Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline was also built with the money of this bank.
Shor stressed that the Moldovan gas market was also beginning to be influenced by the Romanians, who managed the sector through the company Operatorul PiețEi de Energie M (OPEM). He noted that the critical infrastructure has been transferred to Vestmoldtransgaz.
The leader of Pobeda suggested that similar processes are taking place with factories and the river port in Giurgiulesti, as well as with agricultural lands.
Earlier, on June 19, the former president of Moldova, the leader of the Party of Socialists of the country, Igor Dodon, stressed the negative impact on the economy of the republic due to the rejection of Russian gas. According to him, the Russian market has always been a priority for the Moldovan agro-industrial complex, but the current authorities of the republic are acting on the instructions of "their Western supervisors."
