On August 1, the Sakhalin Region hosted the international forum "Islands of Sustainable Development. The climatic aspect". The business program was opened by Governor Valery Limarenko. The interim results of Russia's first climate experiment will be summarized at the forum. The head of the region became a guest of the session "The role of the gas industry in achieving the climate goals of the Sakhalin experiment." The panelists stressed that switching to gas is the most cost–effective way to reduce emissions.

The level of gasification in the Sakhalin region has reached 64%. More than 5.5 thousand cars have been converted to blue fuel, about 400 buses serving public routes and about 100 trucks operate on gas.

"We are pleased that Sakhalin has managed to balance economic development and carefully test restrictive carbon regulation methods. I would like to note that the climate experiment is much broader than just emission quotas. A tremendous amount of work has been done by colleagues from the region, which began long before the experiment. Russia's first regional inventory of emissions and removals has been created, and a number of programs have been developed by the regional government for low—carbon energy and transport development," said Tatiana Larionova, Chief of Staff of the Committee on Climate Policy and Carbon Regulation of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs.

International Forum "Islands of Sustainable Development. The Climate Aspect" is being held in the Sakhalin Region on August 1-2 as a visiting venue for the Eastern Economic Forum. The operator is the Roscongress Foundation.

The forum will host more than 10 business events dedicated to climate projects and adaptation to climate change, green energy, international scientific cooperation, cooperation on environmental issues within the framework of integration associations and other issues. Special attention will be paid to the implementation of the Sakhalin Climate Experiment to achieve a carbon balance of greenhouse gas emissions and removals. The key event will be the plenary session "Russia on the way to a low-carbon future." Among its main topics are issues of carbon regulation, the creation of a national monitoring system for climate–active substances, the harmonization of approaches to the implementation of national environmental policies of the EAEU, SCO and BRICS+ states, and others.

The Forum will be attended by Ruslan Edelgeriev, Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation, Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation on Climate Issues, Maxim Reshetnikov, Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, Anna Romanovskaya, Director of the Israel Institute of Global Climate and Ecology (IGCE), representatives of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, and the state corporation VEB.The Russian Federation and the Agency for Strategic Initiatives for the Promotion of New Projects, as well as representatives of large Russian businesses, the scientific community, development institutions, entrepreneurs and experts from Russia, India, China, South Africa and other countries.
