At temperatures above +30°C, additional risks arise for cars during refueling. Hot weather increases the concentration of flammable vapors and makes any violations of refueling rules especially dangerous, Alexey Balashov, Avilon Mercedes-Benz Director of Service and Spare parts, said on August 1.

"In hot weather, gasoline begins to evaporate much more intensively, forming a cloud of flammable vapors around the filler neck, which can ignite from the slightest spark or upon contact with overheated car parts," Rossiyskaya Gazeta quoted Balashov as saying.

The widespread habit of refilling the tank "to the full" is particularly dangerous, the specialist pointed out. The fact is that thermal expansion of the fuel can cause it to leak out, and even a small amount spilled on hot parts can cause a fire.

The expert also noted that in hot weather, refueling with the engine running or the electrical equipment turned on significantly increases the risk of fire. He also warned about the danger of static electricity, especially if the driver or passengers are wearing synthetic clothing — static discharge during refueling can cause fuel vapor to ignite.

Earlier in the day, it was reported that the average cost of refueling a car in Russia in the first half of 2025 increased by 9% compared to the same period last year and amounted to 1,288 rubles. Russians spent the most on fuel in Moscow — 63.9 billion rubles.
