- A pensioner died after attempting to fly a homemade helicopter in the Kirov region.
A pensioner died in hospital after attempting to take off in a makeshift helicopter in the village of Zalazna in the Kirov region. This was announced on Friday, August 1, by a source of Izvestia.
"The man assembled the helicopter and started launching it into the field. When revving up, an explosion occurred: the blades broke off, and one pierced the amateur pilot's head," the source said.
The source added that the victim's daughter and son-in-law were present during the takeoff. The 88-year-old pensioner was hospitalized, and later died in the clinic.
"I've been interested in aircraft modeling all my life, making flying machines, but I wanted to fly myself," the source said.
On July 20, two people were injured as a result of a Robinson helicopter hard landing in Altai. It was clarified that the Gorno-Altaisk Transport Prosecutor's Office had organized an inspection of the implementation of flight safety legislation. Additional circumstances of the incident are being established.
