An earthquake of magnitude 5.5 was recorded off the coast of Kamchatka. This was announced on August 1 in the press service of the Kamchatka branch of the Federal State Budgetary Educational Institution "Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences" in the Telegram channel.
The natural phenomenon was detected at 06:48 local time. It is noted that the earthquake was located at a distance of 89 km from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky at a depth of 26.2 km.
Earlier in the day, it was reported that 120 aftershocks had been recorded in Kamchatka over the past 24 hours after the earthquake. In populated areas, the strength of some of the aftershocks was felt in the range of 2.0 to 5.0 points.
