The Aerospace Forces (VKS) play one of the key roles in ensuring Russia's military security. This was announced on August 1 by Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov in a congratulatory message to military personnel and veterans on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the creation of the VKS.

"Today, the Aerospace Forces play one of the key roles in ensuring the military security of our state: they reliably protect its air borders, successfully solve tasks, and carry out air and missile defense," he is quoted as saying in the Telegram channel of the Ministry of Defense.

As the Minister of Defense noted, during the special operation, the military personnel of the Aerospace Forces repel drone attacks and enemy strikes, as well as eliminate military installations and conduct reconnaissance of the aerospace situation.

In addition, over 15,000 soldiers of this branch of the armed forces were awarded state awards, and 39 received the title of Hero of Russia for their high professionalism and courage on the battlefield, Belousov drew attention.

The Russian Aerospace Forces have repeatedly contributed to the destruction of the militants of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), their strongholds and military equipment in the area. So, on July 23, crews of attack aircraft on Su-25 aircraft destroyed the personnel and a stronghold of the Ukrainian army in the area of responsibility of the Vostok group of forces.
