- Bakanov announced the removal of the ISS from orbit until 2030 inclusive
The International Space Station (ISS) will be brought down from orbit until 2030 inclusive. This was announced on August 1 by Dmitry Bakanov, head of the Russian state corporation Roscosmos, following a meeting with Sean Duffy, acting head of the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
"It was important for us to find mutual understanding in key points today. We have agreed that we will jointly operate the ISS until 2028, and de-orbiting will be carried out until 2030 inclusive," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.
According to him, all technical issues will be discussed at the level of the Roscosmos and NASA teams. Bakanov clarified that Sergey Krikalev, deputy head of the state corporation, would represent the Russian side, and Kenneth Bowersox, Deputy head of NASA, would represent the American side.
Bakanov met with Acting NASA Director Sean Duffy on July 31. During the working meeting, they discussed Russian-American cooperation on lunar programs and joint space exploration. The parties also discussed the future work of the ISS, as well as cooperation on a number of other space projects.
